WACM (Woodstock Area Community Ministry)

About WACM

As a member organization of Woodstock Area Community Ministry (WACM), Redeemer Lutheran Church cooperates with various churches and other groups for the purpose of serving those in need in our community.

Woodstock Area Community Ministry was established to help those in the Woodstock area who find themselves in financial crisis. The purpose of WACM is to create a system whereby resources can be used in an effective and accountable manner to help those in need while affirming the dignity and worth of each individual. Membership in WACM is open to any organization, secular or faith-based. Member organizations are required to make a financial commitment to WACM and provide two members for the Board of Directors.

WACM Programs

Direct Assistance (DAP)

The Direct Assistance Program is the most vital WACM program. It provides a process through which clients in need may seek emergency financial aid. Funds are provided to help cover the costs of food, clothes, transportation, medicine, and utilities. The DAP office is currently located at Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock.

Day Time Drop In

Daytime Drop-In

The purpose of this program is to provide a daytime site where those in need may stay indoors throughout the morning and receive a midday meal. The site is currently located in the Redeemer Lutheran Church and is open on Thursdays from November through March. Our community's religious centers rotate in helping the WACM volunteers to provide these services. The entire community joins together to prepare a special “turkey with all the trimmings” dinner for the homeless and homebound on Thanksgiving Day.

Wednesday Night PADS

Redeemer Lutheran Church hosts the Wednesday night Emergency PADS site for Woodstock. WACM supports the Woodstock PADS site by helping to generate resources, volunteers, and meal assistance. Volunteers providing meals and working shifts come from many of our member organizations. These same organizations also provide evening meals.

Share the Warmth

Every year WACM collects and distributes hundreds of coats to those in need, many of them children. Coats are distributed first to the homeless and those served by Turning Point. The rest are given away to low income people in the community.

Festival of the Arts

Festival of the Arts

WACM members and benefactors come together once a year as a community to enjoy a delicious dinner and beautiful music provided by the WACM volunteers. The Festival of the Arts raises the funds that are distributed through Direct Assistance. It is truly a celebration of unity of purpose and artistic expression.

Woodstock Walk for Hunger

There are many people hurting right here in Woodstock & Wonder Lake!

All proceeds from the Walk from Hunger support people in need in the Woodstock & Wonder Lake communities.  In the last fiscal year, we provided $29,714 worth of food, $14,274 in clothing, $13,274 in utilities, gas, bus passes, and medical bills, & $3,000 for the PADS emergency shelter.  On average WACM helps 120 children and 111 adults each month.    This year, we hope to raise even more money to help people struggling in our community!

Please join us for a pleasant 5K walk through beautiful Woodstock to raise awareness of the problem of hunger and to raise funds for combating it.  The route is fully marked and police escorted.  There will be a water and washroom stop.  The route is stroller friendly and pet friendly.  Runners are welcome and will be cheered on first!!!
