Worship

Evangelical Lutheran Worship

There is a basic pattern for worship among Lutherans that is rich in tradition and deeply spiritual.

We gather together as the people of God.
We encounter God’s Word through scripture and the pastor’s message.
We share a meal at the Lord’s table.
We are sent into the world in mission.

Although we do these things, we do not think about worship so much in terms of what we do. Worship is an encounter with God, who saves us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Our primary worship resource is Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW). More than a simple hymnal, the ELW is a rich resource that provides information about the church year, a variety of patterns of worship, prayers for specific situations, and liturgical music as well as familiar hymns and songs. On certain Sundays we supplement the music in ELW with those in our contemporary Worship and Praise songbook.

At Redeemer we celebrate open communion. All who believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine are invited to share at the table.

Children of all ages are welcome! All are invited to come forward for a special time of conversation and blessing during the children’s sermon time. Child care is available on request.

The dress code is casual. Come as you are!!

Worship Schedule

We worship on Sunday mornings at 8:00 and 10:00 am. Worship lasts about one hour.  Our 30 minute “Pets are Friendly Service (PAWS)”  takes place on the first Sunday of every month at 11:30 am.

Holy Communion is celebrated at every worship service, including our monthly PAWS service.

We also gather for special observances like Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve. To see dates and time for upcoming special services Click Here.

Sunday Music and DramaDrama

GloriaMusic is an important part of our worship services. Our talented and versatile keyboardist is Gloria Peetz. Gloria is comfortable with all musical styles – jazz, gospel, classical, world music, contemporary praise, as well as the traditional hymns and liturgical music of the church. In her spare time, Gloria can be found playing for the Woodstock Opera House, Woodstock High School and other performances in neighboring cities.

In addition to her music ministry at Redeemer, Gloria selects and sometimes writes dramas that are performed by our church members. Often spiced with humor, these dramas are another way that we illuminate the Gospel in a fresh and exciting way. Redeemer is very grateful for Gloria's dedication and appreciative of her outstanding talent.

Baptisms

Baptisms are a very special event in the life of the church here at Redeemer. We celebrate every baptism with great joy as part of our worship service.

Everyone who is baptized at Redeemer receives a baptismal certificate, a homemade banner, a personally engraved candle, a book, and a video of the baptism. After the service we enjoy a beautifully decorated cake made with love by one of our members.

Pictures of the baptism are then posted on our web site and shown in our church newsletter. If you would like to be baptized or have your children baptized at Redeemer, please contact the church office.

CommunionSunday Servants

All members are invited to be actively involved in worship by serving as greeters, ushers, communion assistants, and readers. A new schedule is developed and published on a monthly basis in the church newsletter, The Witness.

Redeemer’s Praise and Prayer Band

On the fourth Sunday of every month our Praise and Prayer Band leads the congregation in singing Christian contemporary, jazz, Gospel, and even some vintage pop songs.  The order of worship on these Sundays is a contemporary liturgy that includes Holy Communion.  There are also other artistic expressions like painting, banner ministry, and dance.  Fourth Sundays at Redeemer are a once-a-month praise party!!  For more information on our talented band members click here.

Praise and Prayer
Thursdays 7:00-8:30 pm

Every Thursday evening we offer Praise and Prayer, a contemporary worship experience where you can sing all of your contemporary Christian favorites.  On some weeks our entire band provides the music, and on other weeks we sing along with simple keyboard accompaniment.  There is no liturgy or sermon.  It’s a special time to quiet your soul, lift your spirits, and connect with God through worship and song.  Sometimes we offer up free prayer between the songs, and we are always happy to pray with you at the end of this gathering if you have any special concerns.

PAWS

Pets are Welcome Service (PAWS)

On the first Sunday of every month at 11:30 am we join for our “Pets Are Friendly Service (PAWS)”.  This 30 minute worship experience includes singing, scripture reading, a short message, (optional) Communion for the people, and a blessing for the animals.  We meet in the Fellowship Hall.   All animal lovers are welcome whether or not you bring a pet!!  We also offer pet memorial services. Agape Meal Worship

Pentecost is a special time at Redeemer.  On this day we worship in the context of an “Agape Meal” or “Feast of Christian Agape mealLove.”  This ancient yet innovative worship service will includes all of the elements of a regular Sunday service, except that after Holy Communion we join for an actual meal that is an integral part of the worship experience.  The service takes place in the Fellowship Hall, and our Praise Band provides the music.  There is only one 10:00 service on this day.
